Background of the Study
Medication adherence is a critical factor in the management of cancer, as it directly impacts treatment outcomes, patient survival, and the overall effectiveness of therapy. Inadequate adherence to prescribed medication regimens is common among cancer patients due to factors such as the complexity of treatment regimens, side effects of medications, financial constraints, and lack of patient education (Sulaimon et al., 2023). Nurse-led interventions have shown promise in addressing these challenges by providing personalized support, education, and monitoring to ensure that patients follow prescribed medication regimens. Nurses, as integral members of the healthcare team, are in a unique position to influence patient behavior and promote medication adherence through counseling, education, and regular follow-ups.
In Nasarawa State, where cancer treatment facilities are limited and access to specialized care may be difficult for many patients, the role of oncology nurses in improving medication adherence is crucial. Despite the potential benefits of nurse-led interventions, there is a lack of research on the effectiveness of such approaches in the context of Nasarawa State. This study aims to evaluate the impact of nurse-led interventions on improving medication adherence among cancer patients and identify factors that influence their effectiveness.
Statement of the Problem
Medication non-adherence remains a significant challenge in cancer care, particularly in Nasarawa State, where there is limited access to comprehensive cancer care services. Despite the availability of effective medications, poor adherence to treatment regimens can lead to treatment failure, relapse, and increased healthcare costs. Nurse-led interventions have been shown to improve medication adherence in other healthcare settings, but their application in cancer care in Nasarawa State has not been thoroughly investigated.
This study seeks to fill the gap by evaluating the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions in improving medication adherence among cancer patients in Nasarawa State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will assess the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions on medication adherence in cancer patients within healthcare settings in Nasarawa State. Limitations include the potential for self-reporting bias and the variability in nurse-led interventions across different healthcare facilities in the state.
